How to change your nickname on OKX? (Profile settings)
To change your OKX nickname: log in, tap the profile icon, go to Account Settings > Personal Information, edit the nickname (20 chars max, letters/numbers/underscores/hyphens only), and save—subject to a 72-hour cooldown.
Mar 19, 2026 at 10:59 pm
Accessing Profile Settings on OKX
1. Log in to your OKX account using your registered credentials or biometric authentication if enabled.
2. Tap the profile icon located in the top-right corner of the web interface or the bottom navigation bar on the mobile app.
3. Select Account Settings from the dropdown or slide-in menu to enter the configuration panel.
4. Navigate to the Personal Information section, where editable fields including nickname are displayed.
Modifying Your Nickname
1. Locate the Nickname field—this is distinct from your legal name or username and serves as a display identifier across community features.
2. Click or tap the edit icon (pencil symbol) adjacent to the current nickname value.
3. Enter a new nickname adhering to OKX’s naming policy: no special characters except underscores and hyphens, maximum length of 20 Unicode characters, and prohibition of terms violating platform guidelines.
4. Confirm the change by selecting Save—a verification code may be sent via email or SMS depending on your two-factor authentication setup.
Visibility and Sync Implications
1. The updated nickname appears instantly in chat interfaces, trading history summaries, and public profile cards where permitted by privacy settings.
2. It does not affect your API keys, wallet addresses, or orderbook identity, as those remain anchored to your account ID and verification status.
3. Third-party integrations relying on OKX OAuth will reflect the new nickname only after re-authentication or token refresh cycles.
4. Community forums and referral dashboards update the display name within five minutes under normal server load conditions.
Restrictions and Limitations
1. Users flagged for prior policy violations may have nickname editing temporarily disabled until resolution of the associated case.
2. Enterprise accounts and sub-accounts managed under institutional KYC frameworks cannot modify nicknames independently—the parent account administrator controls such fields.
3. A cooldown period of 72 hours applies after each successful nickname change to prevent rapid cycling for obfuscation purposes.
4. Nicknames containing cryptocurrency ticker symbols (e.g., BTC, ETH) or exchange names (e.g., Binance, Coinbase) are automatically rejected during submission.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use emoji in my OKX nickname?A: No. OKX restricts nickname input to alphanumeric characters, underscores (_), and hyphens (-). Emoji, spaces, and diacritical marks trigger validation failure.
Q: Does changing my nickname reset my trading badge or community level?A: No. Badge progression, reputation scores, and forum post counts remain fully intact regardless of nickname updates.
Q: Why does my old nickname still appear in some transaction confirmations?A: Transaction records retain the nickname active at time of execution. Historical entries are immutable and will not retroactively update.
Q: Is nickname change available on all OKX regional versions?A: Yes. The functionality is standardized across OKX global, OKX Turkey, OKX Japan, and OKX Middle East interfaces, subject to local language rendering rules.
