How to Change the Default Currency Display on Kraken to USD or EUR?
Changing Kraken’s default fiat currency (e.g., to USD or EUR) affects UI display—order books, trade inputs, and balance summaries—but leaves actual balances, deposits, and tax reports unchanged.
Oct 03, 2026 at 08:00 am
Account Settings Navigation
1. Log in to your Kraken account using verified credentials and two-factor authentication.
2. Click the user icon located in the top-right corner of the Kraken Pro interface.
3. Select Settings from the dropdown menu to access the configuration panel.
4. Navigate to the Display tab within the Settings section.
5. Locate the Default Fiat Currency dropdown field under the “Trading & Display Preferences” subsection.
Currency Selection Process
1. Click the current fiat currency displayed—this may show GBP, CAD, or JPY depending on initial registration region.
2. Scroll through the full list of supported fiat currencies including USD, EUR, CHF, GBP, CAD, JPY, and AUD.
3. Select USD if your primary trading pairs involve US dollar-denominated assets or if you hold balances in USDT, USDC, or DAI.
4. Choose EUR when managing Euro-based bank transfers, especially for users holding MyFin or other EU-licensed digital banking accounts.
5. Confirm the selection by clicking the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.
Impact on Order Book and Trade Execution
1. The change immediately affects how price levels appear across all order books—BTC/USD replaces BTC/EUR as the primary quote pair unless manually overridden.
2. Order entry fields default to the selected fiat unit: entering “100” in a buy box now means $100 or €100, not the previously configured currency.
3. Historical trade history retains original currency notation but new entries reflect the updated display setting.
4. Deposit and withdrawal summaries adjust to show fiat balances in the newly selected unit, though underlying ledger values remain unchanged.
5. Margin positions and funding rate displays update to match the new base fiat reference without recalculating accrued interest or liquidation thresholds.
Multi-Currency Account Considerations
1. Holding multiple fiat balances—such as USD, EUR, and CHF—does not restrict the display preference; only one can be active for UI rendering.
2. Swissquote-linked accounts retain CHF settlement capability even when USD is set as default display currency.
3. Kraken’s MiCA-compliant infrastructure ensures that all fiat conversions adhere to ECB or Fed-regulated exchange rates regardless of UI selection.
4. Deposits initiated via SEPA or SWIFT retain their original currency designation; the display setting does not trigger automatic conversion.
5. Tax reporting exports maintain original transaction currencies and do not substitute the display preference in generated CSV or PDF files.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does changing the default display currency affect my actual wallet balances? No. Balances remain denominated in their native currency. Only visual representation changes across the interface.
Q: Can I switch between USD and EUR display without logging out? Yes. The setting applies instantly upon saving and requires no session restart or re-authentication.
Q: Why does my deposit history still show GBP after switching to EUR? Deposit records preserve the original currency used during the transaction. Historical entries are immutable for audit compliance.
Q: Is the default fiat setting applied to mobile Kraken Pro as well? Yes. The mobile app synchronizes display preferences with the web interface in real time after saving.
