How to Calculate ETH Futures Fees on OKX? Complete Trading Cost Guide

OKX’s ETH futures fee structure features tiered maker-taker rates (as low as 0.015% taker / −0.025% maker), 8-hour funding settlements, 0.02% liquidation fees, and no order cancellation or weekend surcharges—fully transparent in transaction history.

Aug 24, 2026 at 05:20 am

Understanding ETH Futures Fee Structure on OKX

1. OKX applies a tiered maker-taker fee model for ETH perpetual and quarterly futures contracts, where fees vary based on user’s 30-day trading volume and net asset value in USD.

2. Maker orders—those that add liquidity by resting on the order book—receive rebates, while taker orders—those that immediately match and remove liquidity—incurred higher fees.

3. The base taker fee starts at 0.06%, and the base maker rebate is −0.01%, but VIP users with over $5 million in 30-day volume can reach taker fees as low as 0.015% and maker rebates up to −0.025%.

4. Fees are denominated in ETH for ETH/USDT contracts and settled in USDT, meaning the ETH amount is converted at the index price at execution time.

5. No deposit or withdrawal fees apply to USDT or ETH used exclusively for margin purposes; however, external transfers incur standard blockchain network fees.

Funding Rate Charges and Settlement Mechanics

1. ETH perpetual contracts include a funding rate mechanism updated every 8 hours—at 00:00, 08:00, and 16:00 UTC—to anchor the contract price to the underlying ETH index.

2. Funding payments are calculated as Position Size × Funding Rate, paid in USDT, and applied automatically to users’ wallets at settlement time.

3. When the funding rate is positive, long positions pay short positions; when negative, shorts pay longs—a direct reflection of market sentiment and basis deviation.

4. OKX publishes real-time funding rate data on its futures dashboard, including the next scheduled rate and the 8-hour average used for calculation.

5. Users holding positions across funding intervals will see the charge or credit reflected instantly in their available margin balance post-settlement.

Insurance Fund and Liquidation Costs

1. OKX maintains an insurance fund funded by liquidated positions’ remaining equity, which absorbs losses during auto-deleveraging events to protect solvent accounts.

2. Liquidation occurs when a position’s margin ratio falls below 100%, triggering forced closure at the bankruptcy price—not the mark price—resulting in potential negative equity adjustments.

3. If a liquidated position leaves a deficit after insurance fund coverage, OKX may apply a clawback, debiting the shortfall from the user’s account in USDT or ETH depending on the contract type.

4. The liquidation fee itself is fixed at 0.02% of the position’s notional value, deducted before insurance fund allocation.

5. Traders using cross-margin mode face broader exposure, as all assets in the wallet contribute to margin calculations, increasing both risk and potential cost amplification during volatility.

Fee Calculation Example: 10 ETH Long Position

1. A trader opens a 10 ETH long position in ETH/USDT perpetual at $3,200 with 20x leverage, posting $1,600 as initial margin.

2. They place a limit buy as a maker order—receiving a rebate of −0.01% on $32,000 notional, equaling $3.20 credited in USDT.

3. Over 48 hours, the funding rate averages +0.0072%; the funding charge becomes 10 × $3,200 × 0.0072 = $2.304, debited at next settlement.

4. If price drops to $2,950 and margin ratio hits 98%, liquidation triggers: $32,000 × 0.02% = $6.40 liquidation fee is applied before insurance fund review.

5. The final PnL reflects entry-exit price difference, maker rebate, funding charges, and liquidation fee—all visible in the transaction history tab under “Futures Fees”.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are there fees for canceling limit orders?A: No. OKX does not charge cancellation fees for any order type, regardless of status or frequency.

Q: Does OKX apply overnight or weekend surcharges on ETH futures?A: No. Funding rates operate uniformly every 8 hours without holiday or time-based adjustments.

Q: Can I view historical fee breakdowns per contract?A: Yes. Under “Assets → Futures Account → Transaction History”, filter by “Fee” to see timestamps, contract symbols, and exact USDT amounts debited or credited.

Q: Is the insurance fund contribution visible on my statement?A: No. Contributions occur only upon liquidation and are not itemized separately; they appear only as part of the liquidation event record.
