How to use Bybit Shark Fin? (Principal protected)
Bybit’s Shark Fin offers principal-protected crypto structured products with binary yield payouts—full return if the asset stays within preset barriers, else just principal back.

Understanding Shark Fin Products on Bybit
1. Shark Fin is a structured derivative product offered by Bybit that combines fixed-income characteristics with limited exposure to underlying asset price movements.
2. The product guarantees 100% principal protection at maturity, meaning users receive their initial investment back regardless of market direction—provided they hold until expiry.
3. Returns are triggered when the underlying asset’s price stays within a predefined range during the observation period, often referred to as the “knock-in” and “knock-out” boundaries.
4. Each Shark Fin contract has a fixed term, typically ranging from 7 to 30 days, and is denominated in USDT or BTC depending on the selected pair.
5. The underlying assets include major cryptocurrencies such as BTC/USDT, ETH/USDT, and SOL/USDT, allowing users to align exposure with their preferred market segment.
Navigating the Purchase Process
1. Users must log into their Bybit account and navigate to the Derivatives section, then select Structured Products → Shark Fin.
2. A list of available Shark Fin offerings appears, each displaying key parameters: underlying asset, maturity date, annualized yield, barrier levels, and minimum subscription amount.
3. After selecting a product, users enter the subscription quantity in USDT or the chosen base currency, ensuring sufficient balance in their Derivatives wallet.
4. Confirmation requires reviewing the terms including early redemption restrictions, settlement mechanism, and the exact payoff formula tied to the final reference price.
5. Upon successful submission, the funds are deducted immediately and appear under Active Positions with real-time tracking of barrier status and accrued yield.
How Payoff Mechanics Work
1. At maturity, Bybit fetches the final reference price—the index price of the underlying asset averaged over the last 30 minutes before expiry.
2. If the final price remains between the upper and lower barriers throughout the entire term, the user receives the full advertised yield, paid in the same settlement currency.
3. If the price breaches either barrier at any point during the observation window, the product settles at the guaranteed principal only, with zero additional return.
4. There is no partial payout; the outcome is strictly binary—either full yield or principal-only return—based solely on whether the knock-out condition was ever met.
5. Settlement occurs automatically within two hours post-expiry, and credited funds are instantly available for withdrawal or reinvestment.
Risk Parameters and Monitoring Tools
1. Barrier levels are calculated dynamically based on the spot price at issuance and adjusted for volatility assumptions embedded in Bybit’s pricing model.
2. Users can view live barrier tracking on the product detail page, where color-coded indicators show proximity to upper/lower bounds in real time.
3. Historical performance data of similar Shark Fin contracts is accessible via the Analytics tab, showing past hit rates for specific assets and durations.
4. Leverage is not applied; all positions are fully collateralized, eliminating margin calls or forced liquidations.
5. Early exit is disabled—once subscribed, the position locks until maturity, reinforcing the importance of aligning investment horizon with personal liquidity needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Can I withdraw my funds before the Shark Fin contract expires? No. Shark Fin products on Bybit do not support early redemption. The capital remains locked until the official maturity timestamp.
Q2. Is the principal protection applicable if Bybit suspends operations?Principal protection is governed by Bybit’s contractual obligations and applies under normal platform operation. It does not extend to insolvency or regulatory shutdown scenarios.
Q3. What happens if the underlying asset undergoes a hard fork during the term?Bybit uses a composite index price derived from multiple exchanges and excludes fork-related anomalies. Settlement remains unaffected by chain splits or token distributions.
Q4. Are Shark Fin returns subject to taxation?Tax treatment depends on jurisdiction-specific crypto regulations. Bybit does not provide tax documentation; users must report yields as ordinary income or capital gains per local law.
