How to Verify Wallet Transactions on Etherscan

Accessing Etherscan Official Interface
1. Navigate directly to https://etherscan.io using a secure browser connection. Always verify the URL matches exactly—no typos or alternate domains.
2. Avoid clicking links from unsolicited emails or third-party chat platforms. Bookmark the official domain to prevent accidental redirection to phishing replicas.
3. The homepage displays a prominent search bar centered at the top. No account creation or login is required for basic transaction verification.
4. Paste either a 42-character Ethereum address beginning with 0x or a 64-character transaction hash (also prefixed with 0x) into the search field.
5. Press Enter or click the magnifying glass icon to initiate the query. The system resolves the input instantly and loads the corresponding public record.
Interpreting Transaction Status Fields
1. On the transaction detail page, locate the Status label near the top. A green checkmark beside Success confirms irreversible on-chain execution.
2. If Pending appears, the transaction remains in the mempool and has not yet been included in a block. Monitor this field for real-time status shifts.
3. A Reverted status indicates contract-level failure. Scroll down to the Transaction Receipt section and read the Reason field for precise error context.
4. Confirm the From address matches the sender’s known wallet. Any mismatch suggests spoofing or misconfiguration during initiation.
5. Validate the To address against the intended recipient. Even a single character deviation renders the transfer irrecoverable.
Analyzing Confirmation Depth and Finality
1. The Confirmations counter reflects how many subsequent blocks have been mined since the transaction’s inclusion. This number increases continuously over time.
2. A value of 0 means the transaction resides only in a miner’s local mempool—not yet part of the canonical chain.
3. Values between 1 and 11 indicate provisional inclusion; reorg risk remains non-zero but diminishes with each new block.
4. At 12 confirmations, the probability of chain reorganization drops below statistically negligible thresholds for most operational purposes.
5. For high-value transfers, institutions often enforce internal policies requiring ≥30 confirmations before asset release or reconciliation.
Filtering Token Transfers Separately
1. From an address’s main page, select the Transactions tab to load the full chronological list.
2. Click the Filter button located in the top-right corner of the transaction table.
3. Deselect Normal Transaction and enable only Token Transfer. This isolates ERC-20 and ERC-721 movements from native ETH flows.
4. Each filtered entry shows the token symbol, transferred amount, and associated contract address. Cross-reference the contract address with known verified tokens.
5. Click Details next to any token line item to inspect raw event logs, including indexed parameters such as from, to, and value.
Examining Internal Transactions for Contract Interactions
1. Scroll down the transaction detail page until reaching the Internal Txns section. This reveals calls made by smart contracts during execution.
2. Entries here do not appear in the main transaction list and are invisible without explicit inspection.
3. Each internal operation lists its own From, To, and Value, enabling granular tracing of fund routing inside decentralized applications.
4. A blank Internal Txns section confirms no secondary contract invocations occurred—only direct value transfer.
5. When interacting with DeFi protocols, reviewing internal transactions helps verify whether liquidity was added, withdrawn, or swapped as expected.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I verify a transaction without knowing the exact hash?Yes. Input the sender or receiver address instead, then sort transactions by time descending to locate the relevant entry manually.
Q: Why does my transaction show “Success” but zero balance change in my wallet? This usually occurs when the wallet interface fails to refresh or lacks support for the specific token standard used in the transfer.
Q: Is it safe to paste my wallet address into Etherscan?Yes. Wallet addresses are public identifiers. Etherscan never requests private keys, seed phrases, or passwords.
Q: What does “Warning! Error encountered during contract execution” mean?It signals that a smart contract executed a REVERT or INVALID opcode, halting further logic while consuming all allocated gas.
