Who Founded Dogecoin?
Jackson Palmer:
- An Australian software engineer who had previously worked for Adobe Systems.
Billy Markus:
- An American programmer who was a member of the IBM Rational team.
Markus' Background:
- Markus had been involved in the cryptocurrency community since the early days of Bitcoin. He had created various projects, including the subreddit /r/dogecoin.
Palmer's Beliefs:
- Palmer was critical of the cryptocurrency community, which he perceived as elitist and dominated by large financial interests. He wanted to create a cryptocurrency that was fun and accessible to all.
Idea behind Dogecoin:
- In December 2013, Palmer suggested creating a new cryptocurrency as a joke based on the popular "Doge" meme featuring a Shiba Inu dog. Markus responded to Palmer's proposal and they collaborated to launch Dogecoin.
Launch of Dogecoin:
- Dogecoin was officially launched on December 6, 2013. It quickly gained popularity due to its playful nature and its association with the Doge meme.
