How to set up auto-invest for Bitcoin on Kraken?
To use Kraken’s Auto-Invest, log in with 2FA, navigate to Trade > Auto-Invest, verify your account, link a funding method, choose XBT, set amount/frequency/start date, and review spread-based fees.
Jan 28, 2026 at 08:19 pm
Accessing the Auto-Invest Feature
1. Log into your Kraken account using verified credentials and two-factor authentication.
2. Navigate to the Trade section from the main dashboard menu.
3. Select Auto-Invest from the dropdown or sidebar options—this may appear under “Tools” or “Features” depending on interface updates.
4. Confirm that your account has completed identity verification at the required level, as auto-invest functionality is restricted to fully verified users.
5. Ensure your funding method is linked and active—Kraken supports bank transfers, debit cards, and stablecoin deposits for recurring purchases.
Configuring Investment Parameters
1. Choose Bitcoin (XBT) as the target asset from the available cryptocurrency list; Kraken displays it as XBT in official interfaces.
2. Set the recurring amount in your preferred fiat currency (e.g., USD, EUR) or in XBT units—minimum thresholds apply per region and payment method.
3. Define the frequency: options include daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly intervals; calendar-based scheduling is enforced without custom date selection.
4. Specify the start date—users cannot backdate purchases, and the first execution occurs on or after the selected day.
5. Review fee disclosures: Kraken applies a spread-based execution model rather than a flat commission, meaning pricing reflects real-time order book depth at execution time.
Funding and Execution Mechanics
1. Auto-invest orders execute only if sufficient balance exists in the designated funding source at the scheduled time.
2. Bank transfers require settlement confirmation before funds are considered available; instant methods like card deposits trigger faster execution.
3. Each purchase results in immediate XBT allocation to your main Kraken wallet—no separate custody or vault segregation occurs by default.
4. Executed orders appear in the Order History tab with timestamps, executed price, and fee breakdowns.
5. Failed executions due to insufficient balance or payment method limits generate notifications but do not auto-retry; manual reactivation is required.
Managing Active Plans
1. Edit existing plans to adjust amount, frequency, or asset—changes apply prospectively and do not affect pending or completed cycles.
2. Pause a plan temporarily without cancellation; paused status halts all future executions until resumed manually.
3. Cancel a plan permanently via the trash icon next to its entry—cancellation does not reverse prior purchases or associated fees.
4. View total invested value and average buy price across all auto-invest cycles in the summary panel above the plan list.
5. Export transaction records for tax reporting using the CSV export option located beneath the plan table.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Can I use Kraken Futures margin balance to fund auto-invest purchases? No. Auto-invest draws exclusively from the Spot wallet or linked external funding sources. Futures margin accounts are isolated and ineligible.
Q2. Does Kraken support dollar-cost averaging across multiple cryptocurrencies in one plan? No. Each auto-invest plan is tied to a single asset. Multiple plans must be created individually for diversified exposure.
Q3. Are auto-invest purchases eligible for Kraken’s staking rewards or yield programs? No. Assets acquired through auto-invest land directly in the Spot wallet and require manual transfer to staking or earn products.
Q4. What happens if the Bitcoin market is down during my scheduled purchase? The plan executes regardless of price movement. Auto-invest operates on schedule and amount—not on technical indicators or market conditions.
