How to purchase Solana (SOL) on Phantom? (Mobile wallet tutorial)
To set up Phantom Mobile Wallet, download the official app, create a new wallet, securely back up your 12-word recovery phrase, set a PIN or biometrics, and connect to Solana Mainnet Beta.
Feb 20, 2026 at 10:59 pm
Setting Up Phantom Mobile Wallet
1. Download the Phantom mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Ensure the app is verified and published by Phantom Labs.
2. Open the app and tap “Create New Wallet” to begin initialization. Avoid skipping backup steps during setup.
3. Write down the 12-word recovery phrase in exact order on paper. Never store it digitally or share it with anyone.
4. Confirm the seed phrase by selecting words in correct sequence as prompted. This verifies your ability to restore access later.
5. Set a strong six-digit PIN or enable biometric authentication for daily wallet access.
Connecting to Solana Mainnet
1. Launch Phantom and ensure the network selector shows “Solana Mainnet Beta”. Tap the network icon if it displays another chain.
2. Select “Solana Mainnet Beta” from the list. The wallet automatically syncs with validators and updates token balances.
3. Verify the SOL balance display appears in the top section of the home screen. A zero balance is normal before funding.
4. Tap the “+” icon beside the SOL balance to reveal deposit options, including QR code, wallet address, and Solana Explorer link.
5. Copy the displayed Solana wallet address. It begins with “A” or “B” and contains 32–44 alphanumeric characters.
Buying SOL via Integrated On-Ramp Services
1. From the Phantom home screen, tap the “Buy” button located below the balance field.
2. Choose a supported fiat on-ramp provider such as MoonPay, Transak, or Ramp. Each displays real-time exchange rates and fees.
3. Enter the USD (or local currency) amount you wish to spend. Phantom converts it to SOL using the selected provider’s rate.
4. Complete identity verification if required by the on-ramp service. This may include uploading government ID and selfie.
5. Confirm purchase details and authorize payment using card, Apple Pay, or bank transfer. SOL arrives in your Phantom wallet within seconds to minutes.
Receiving SOL from External Sources
1. Share your Phantom wallet address with the sender. Use QR code scanning or manual copy-paste to avoid typos.
2. Ensure the sender selects Solana network when initiating transfer. Sending SOL via Ethereum or BSC will result in permanent loss.
3. Monitor the transaction status using Solana Explorer by pasting your wallet address into explorer.solana.com.
4. SOL tokens appear instantly upon confirmation. Phantom auto-detects SPL tokens and displays them without manual token addition.
5. Check transaction history by tapping the clock icon in the bottom navigation bar. Each entry shows timestamp, amount, and status.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I buy SOL directly inside Phantom without linking a bank account?Yes. Phantom integrates third-party on-ramps that accept credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, and some regional bank transfers without requiring direct bank linkage to Phantom itself.
Q: Why does my SOL balance not update after receiving a transaction? This occurs if the transaction is pending or failed. Verify the transaction signature on Solana Explorer. Phantom only reflects confirmed transactions on-chain.
Q: Is it safe to use Phantom’s built-in buy feature?Phantom does not handle funds or KYC data. All on-ramp services operate independently under their own compliance frameworks. Phantom merely routes users to those platforms.
Q: What happens if I lose my phone but have my seed phrase? You can fully restore your Phantom wallet—including all SOL and associated tokens—on any device by entering the 12-word phrase during new wallet creation.
