What is the issuance and circulation of BNT coins?
BNT coins, issued through an ICO with a total supply of approximately 158 million, serve as a core component in the Bancor DEX, providing liquidity, enabling fee payment, and offering governance rights to holders.

Bancor Network Token (BNT) is the native cryptocurrency of the Bancor platform, a decentralized exchange (DEX) that facilitates the instant and automated conversion of crypto assets. BNT plays a crucial role in the operation of the Bancor DEX, primarily as a liquidity provider and fee payment mechanism.
Issuance of BNT Coins:- Initial Coin Offering (ICO): In June 2017, Bancor conducted an ICO to raise funds for the development and launch of the Bancor DEX. During the ICO, 79 million BNT tokens were issued, representing approximately 50% of the total BNT supply.
Token Distribution: The remaining 50% of the BNT supply was distributed as follows:
- Founder Rewards: 20% to the founding team and early contributors.
- Ecosystem Fund: 15% allocated for strategic investments and ecosystem development.
- Future Utility: 15% reserved for future use cases and platform incentives.
- Initial Supply: Upon the launch of the Bancor DEX in 2017, the total supply of BNT coins was approximately 158 million.
- Token Burn: Bancor has implemented a token burn mechanism to reduce the BNT supply over time. A portion of the fees collected from transactions on the Bancor DEX is used to buy back and burn BNT tokens.
- Current Supply: As of November 2023, the circulating supply of BNT coins is approximately 90 million, with a total supply of approximately 110 million remaining.
- Liquidity Provision: BNT serves as a liquidity provider for all trading pairs on the Bancor DEX. Traders can stake BNT in a liquidity pool to earn rewards and contribute to the overall liquidity and stability of the DEX.
- Fee Payment: BNT is the primary currency used to pay fees on the Bancor DEX. Traders pay a fee of 0.1% for each trade, which is distributed to liquidity providers and the BNT Smart Contract.
- Governance: BNT holders have the right to participate in the governance of the Bancor protocol. They can vote on proposals related to platform upgrades, fee adjustments, and ecosystem development.
The issuance and circulation of BNT coins are central to the operation and success of the Bancor DEX. Through its role as a liquidity provider, fee payment mechanism, and governance token, BNT facilitates the efficient exchange of crypto assets and contributes to the overall health and growth of the Bancor ecosystem.
