How to Play Bitfinex Perpetual Contracts

Perpetual contracts, also known as perpetual swaps, are a type of futures contract that allows traders to speculate on the future price of an underlying asset without having to take physical delivery of the asset. Unlike traditional futures contracts, which have a fixed expiration date, perpetual contracts have no expiration date and can be held indefinitely.

Bitfinex is one of the largest and most popular cryptocurrency exchanges in the world. It offers a wide range of perpetual contracts, including contracts for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Ripple.

To play Bitfinex perpetual contracts, you will need to:

  1. Create an account on Bitfinex.
  2. Deposit funds into your account.
  3. Choose a perpetual contract to trade.
  4. Place an order to buy or sell the contract.
  5. Manage your position.

1. Create an Account on Bitfinex

To create an account on Bitfinex, visit the Bitfinex website and click on the "Sign Up" button. You will be asked to provide your email address, create a password, and agree to the Bitfinex terms of service.

Once you have created an account, you will need to verify your email address. To do this, click on the verification link that was sent to your email address.

2. Deposit Funds into Your Account

Before you can start trading perpetual contracts, you will need to deposit funds into your Bitfinex account. Bitfinex accepts a variety of deposit methods, including bank wire, credit card, and cryptocurrency.

To deposit funds into your account, click on the "Deposit" button in the top navigation bar. You will be asked to select a deposit method and provide the necessary information.

3. Choose a Perpetual Contract to Trade

Bitfinex offers a wide range of perpetual contracts, including contracts for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Ripple. To choose a perpetual contract to trade, click on the "Trading" tab in the top navigation bar and select "Perpetual Contracts."

You will be presented with a list of all of the perpetual contracts that are available for trading on Bitfinex. To learn more about a particular contract, click on the contract name.

4. Place an Order to Buy or Sell a Contract

Once you have chosen a perpetual contract to trade, you can place an order to buy or sell the contract. To do this, click on the "Buy" or "Sell" button in the order form.

You will be asked to specify the following information:

  • The quantity of the contract that you want to buy or sell
  • The price at which you want to buy or sell the contract
  • The type of order that you want to place

5. Manage Your Position

Once you have placed an order to buy or sell a perpetual contract, you will need to manage your position. This involves monitoring the price of the contract and making adjustments to your order as necessary.

You can manage your position by clicking on the "Positions" tab in the top navigation bar. You will be presented with a list of all of your open positions.

To close a position, click on the "Close Position" button. You will be asked to confirm that you want to close the position.

Conclusion

Perpetual contracts are a powerful tool that can be used to speculate on the future price of an underlying asset. However, it is important to remember that perpetual contracts are also a risky investment. Before you start trading perpetual contracts, it is important to understand how they work and to develop a sound trading strategy.
