How to use multi-asset margin mode on Binance? (Collateral management)
Multi-asset margin mode lets traders use 30+ assets (e.g., BTC, ETH, USDT) as shared collateral, with dynamic risk-weighted valuation, unified liquidation, and automatic priority-based repayment.

Understanding Multi-Asset Margin Mode
1. Multi-asset margin mode allows traders to use multiple supported assets as collateral simultaneously within a single margin account.
2. This mode supports over 30 digital assets including BTC, ETH, BNB, USDT, and BUSD as eligible collateral types.
3. The system automatically calculates the total collateral value using real-time market prices and predefined risk weights for each asset.
4. Assets held in this mode are not isolated per position — they collectively back all open margin positions in the account.
5. Interest accrual and liquidation calculations apply across the entire portfolio rather than on individual asset balances.
Enabling Multi-Asset Margin Mode
1. Log into your Binance account and navigate to the [Margin] section under [Trade].
2. Click on [Margin Account] and locate the toggle labeled “Multi-Asset Mode” at the top-right corner of the interface.
3. Confirm activation by entering your Google Authenticator code or SMS verification depending on your security settings.
4. Once enabled, the platform displays a unified margin balance reflecting all eligible assets converted into USDT-equivalent value.
5. Users cannot disable multi-asset mode while holding active cross-margin positions or pending repayments.
Collateral Allocation and Conversion Rules
1. Each asset contributes to the total collateral based on its spot balance multiplied by its assigned collateral factor — for example, BTC has a 90% factor while ADA carries a 50% factor.
2. When borrowing begins, Binance applies internal conversion logic: higher-ranked assets like BTC and ETH are prioritized before lower-tier ones during margin calls.
3. No manual selection is required — the system dynamically selects optimal assets for repayment or liquidation based on current volatility and liquidity metrics.
4. Transfers between spot and margin accounts remain permitted but trigger immediate recalculation of available borrowing power and maintenance margin levels.
5. Cross-margin interest is charged daily in the borrowed asset, and accrued interest is deducted from available collateral if insufficient free margin exists.
Risk Management and Liquidation Mechanics
1. Maintenance margin ratio is computed as (Total Collateral Value / Total Borrowed Value + Accrued Interest) × 100%.
2. If the ratio falls below the threshold — typically 110% for most assets — a margin call notification appears instantly via email and app alert.
3. Liquidation initiates when the ratio drops to or below 105%, triggering automatic sale of collateral starting with the highest-weighted asset in the pool.
4. During partial liquidations, only enough assets are sold to restore the margin ratio above the maintenance level, preserving remaining positions where possible.
5. Traders may manually add more collateral at any time to increase buffer space without closing existing leveraged trades.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use stablecoins like USDC or DAI as collateral in multi-asset margin mode?A: As of current configuration, only USDT, BUSD, and FDUSD are accepted stablecoin collaterals. USDC and DAI are not supported.
Q: Does transferring assets into the margin account immediately increase my borrowing limit?A: Yes, once confirmed on-chain and reflected in the margin wallet, the new balance updates the total collateral value and recalculates borrowing capacity instantly.
Q: Are there different interest rates depending on which asset I borrow?A: Absolutely. BNB-denominated loans carry lower annualized rates compared to BTC or ETH loans due to Binance’s incentive structure and liquidity depth.
Q: What happens to unused collateral after repaying a loan?A: Unused collateral remains in the margin wallet and continues contributing to overall margin health until withdrawn or used for subsequent borrowing.
