What is the Kraken Contract Fee?
Kraken, a global digital asset exchange, offers futures and perpetual contracts trading with competitive fees. The exchange charges a taker and maker fee for contract trades, which vary based on factors such as trade volume and VIP tier.
Taker Fees
Taker fees are charged when you execute a trade that immediately fills against an existing order in the order book. In futures and perpetual contracts trading, takers remove liquidity from the market by executing trades that are already available.
- Kraken Pro: 0.02% (20 basis points)
- Kraken Plus: 0.015% (15 basis points)
- Kraken VIP: Tier 1 (100-500 BTC volume per month): 0.014% (14 basis points)
- Kraken VIP: Tier 2 (500-2,000 BTC volume per month): 0.013% (13 basis points)
- Kraken VIP: Tier 3 (2,000+ BTC volume per month): 0.012% (12 basis points)
Maker Fees
Maker fees are charged when you place an order that adds liquidity to the order book. In futures and perpetual contracts trading, makers are providing liquidity by offering to trade at a specific price and quantity.
- Kraken Pro: 0.01% (10 basis points)
- Kraken Plus: 0.005% (5 basis points)
- Kraken VIP: Tier 1 (100-500 BTC volume per month): 0.004% (4 basis points)
- Kraken VIP: Tier 2 (500-2,000 BTC volume per month): 0.003% (3 basis points)
- Kraken VIP: Tier 3 (2,000+ BTC volume per month): 0.002% (2 basis points)
Additional Fees
- Settlement Fee: A small fee charged when a futures contract expires and is settled in the underlying asset. This fee is typically less than 0.01%.
- Overnight Funding Fee: A fee charged on perpetual contracts when the funding rate is positive. This fee ensures that the perpetual contract price stays close to the spot price of the underlying asset.
