How to Sign a Message with MetaMask1. Open the MetaMask Extension

Click on the MetaMask icon in your browser's toolbar.
If you don't have MetaMask installed, visit https://metamask.io/ to download and set it up.

2. Unlock Your MetaMask Account

Enter your password and click "Unlock".
If you have enabled biometric authentication, use your fingerprint or face ID to unlock instead.

3. Navigate to the Main Menu

Click on the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner of the MetaMask interface.
Select "Settings" from the drop-down menu.

4. Choose the "Advanced" Tab

Click on the "Advanced" tab in the left-hand menu.

5. Enable Message Signing

Scroll down to the "Message Signing" section.
Toggle the "Show message signature verification" button to the "On" position.

6. Open the Address Panel

Navigate to the account address you want to use to sign the message.
Click on the address to expand the address panel.

7. Find the "Sign Message" Button

At the bottom of the address panel, you'll find a button labeled "Sign Message".
Click on this button to begin signing a message.

8. Enter the Message

In the "Message" field, enter the message you want to sign.
Ensure that the message you enter matches the one you want to verify later.

9. Sign the Message

Click on the "Sign Message" button again.
MetaMask will display a confirmation message.
Click "OK" to sign the message.

10. Retrieve the Signature

After signing the message, you can retrieve the signature from MetaMask.
Click on the clipboard icon next to the "Signed Message" field.
The signature will be copied to your clipboard.

11. Verify the Signature (Optional)

To verify the signature, you can use a third-party tool or service that supports message signing with Ethereum.
Enter the message and signature in the appropriate fields.
The tool will verify the validity of the signature and inform you whether it matches the specified address.
