Understanding Proof of Elapsed Time (PoET)Proof of Elapsed Time (PoET) is a consensus mechanism used in blockchain technology to achieve distributed consensus among nodes in a verifiable and unbiased manner. It works by having nodes demonstrate to the network that they have waited a specific amount of time without interruption.
2. Key Features of PoET- Trustless Verification: Nodes verify each other's claims by examining the timestamps on their messages, ensuring that they have waited sufficiently long without being compromised.
- Scalability: PoET is designed to be highly scalable, allowing a large number of nodes to participate in consensus without compromising performance.
- Energy Efficiency: Unlike proof-of-work mechanisms, PoET consumes significantly less energy, making it more environmentally sustainable.
Proof of Spacetime (PoST) is another consensus mechanism that combines elements of PoET and Proof of Storage (PoS). It relies on nodes demonstrating that they have stored data for a certain period of time and have been online continuously during that time.
4. Key Features of PoST- Proof of Storage: Nodes must prove that they have allocated and stored a specific amount of disk space for a specified duration.
- Continuous Presence: Nodes must remain online and responsive for the entire period they claim to have stored data, ensuring network stability.
- Caching Resistance: PoST is designed to discourage caching strategies by requiring nodes to prove that they have been continuously responding to network queries.
