What is HBAR?

Hedera Hashgraph (HBAR) is a distributed ledger technology (DLT) platform that uses a unique consensus mechanism called Hashgraph to achieve high throughput and low latency. It was founded in 2018 by Leemon Baird, Mance Harmon, and Alex Shulgin.

Key Features of HBAR:
  1. Hashgraph Consensus: HBAR uses a directed acyclic graph (DAG) structure called Hashgraph to record transactions. Each node in the network maintains a history of the transactions it has seen, and they reach consensus on the order of transactions through a gossip-based voting mechanism.
  2. High Performance: HBAR boasts high throughput (up to 10,000 transactions per second) and low latency (seconds to finalize).
  3. Scalability: The platform is designed to be highly scalable, with the potential to handle millions of transactions per second.
  4. Security: HBAR uses a public-key cryptographic system to ensure the authenticity and integrity of transactions.
  5. Governance: The Hedera network is governed by the Hedera Governing Council, which consists of leading organizations in various industries.
HBAR Coin

The HBAR coin is the native token of the Hedera Hashgraph platform. It is used for:

  1. Transaction Fees: Users pay HBAR to conduct transactions on the network.
  2. Governance: HBAR holders can participate in the governance of the platform through the Hedera Governing Council.
  3. Staking: Users can stake HBAR to earn rewards and contribute to the security of the network.
Uses of HBAR

HBAR is used in a wide range of applications, including:

  1. Supply Chain Management: Tracking the movement of goods and ensuring transparency in supply chains.
  2. Financial Services: Enabling real-time settlements, cross-border payments, and digital asset issuance.
  3. Healthcare: Managing patient records, sharing medical data securely, and tracking clinical trials.
  4. Gaming: Creating virtual economies, enabling in-game purchases, and facilitating tournaments.
Current Market Performance

Hedera Hashgraph is currently one of the top 50 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. The price of HBAR has been volatile, reaching an all-time high of $0.57 in September 2021. As of November 2023, it is trading at around $0.08.
