Openmesh wants to become the Amazon Web Services cloud infrastructure for Web3. They’re building out a decentralized cloud infrastructure for data storage and access, with a focus on large-scale database storage. Openmesh’s DePIN network spans 172 countries and over 480 regions, with 26 PB of storage in use at a bandwidth of 900 PB. They’re working to integrate Web2 technologies and methods into Web3, and their Chainlink partnership is a major step in that direction. If businesses are going to trust Openmesh with their databases, there needs to be integration with real-world data for things blockchain can’t do, like tracking stock prices for a trading engine. Oracles, like Chainlink, bring real-world data to the blockchain. Combining CCIP with Openmesh’s Decentralized Cloud can help make apps, services, and protocols more decentralized.

If an app wants to be fully decentralized, including its buildout, data storage and access, and feeds, this partnership now makes it possible. Hopefully, the era of dApps still building on AWS, Google Cloud, or AliBaba Cloud and being dependent on these services will end soon. After all, if Amazon can shut down an app due to data storage issues or for any reason, then how decentralized is that app really?
