Hayden Salt, head gardener at Jacksons Nurseries, shares that "keeping your lawn thriving all year round does take some care and attention."

Hayden adds that it's also important to know what to feed you're grass, sharing: "Knowing what to feed and when is also crucial.

"Nitrogen-rich fertilisers can help your lawn in colder months, but in summer you need a mix of phosphorus and potassium, as well as nitrogen.

"But avoid overfeeding as too much nitrogen can stress your lawn in the heat."

Heavy rain can drown your grass and make your garden a muddy mess, however, Hayden has shared how you can avoid your grass becoming a swamp.

Using the method of aerating (making small holes in your grass), helps water drain away, as the garden expert says: "Aerating ensures there’s space for the water and nutrients to flow to the grass’s roots when you’re feeding and watering in warmer months.

One key thing you don't want to do to your grass is mow it too often that it will die, as Hayden explains: "Judge your mowing schedule by how your grass is growing. In spring and summer,r you should be mowing every week or every two weeks.

"The aim is to help supplement it so that whatever we want to plant in it thrives.
