The announcement coincides with the triumphant performance of US skating sensation Nathan Chen at the Winter Olympics in Beijing, where he shattered the world record in the individual men's short program. Chen's remarkable achievement exemplifies the caliber of athletes US Figure Skating fosters and supports.

"We are constantly exploring new and groundbreaking methods to secure funding for our athletes, clubs, programs, and initiatives," said Ramsey Baker, executive director of US Figure Skating. "Offering our supporters the flexibility to contribute using cryptocurrency aligns with the evolving financial landscape."

Engiven's platform provides a seamless and secure gateway for cryptocurrency donations, which are converted into dollars before being received by US Figure Skating. The platform supports a vast selection of cryptocurrencies, ranging from established assets like bitcoin and ether to alternative options like shiba inu coin.

"Empowering donors with the ability to contribute cryptocurrency empowers our athletes to pursue their aspirations," stated James Lawrence, CEO of Engiven. "We are honored to provide the technological infrastructure for these donations."

The influx of cryptocurrency donations is projected to bolster various projects and initiatives undertaken by US Figure Skating. Notably, the organization's Destination Beijing project, which aims to gather loved ones of competing athletes unable to travel to China, will benefit from these contributions. The project establishes "US Figure Skating's Family Room," where they can witness the broadcast performances of their athletes.

The surge in cryptocurrency donations mirrors a broader trend observed during the COVID-19 pandemic, where online donations experienced a significant increase. According to CoinDesk, crypto donations witnessed an astronomical surge of over 1,500% in 2021 compared to the previous year. Moreover, the average size of crypto donations significantly surpassed that of cash donations.

As cryptocurrency gains wider acceptance and adoption, this partnership positions US Figure Skating at the forefront of innovation and financial inclusivity.
