Global football authority FIFA is creating its own Layer-1 blockchain with the help of Avalanche. This move will see the organisation move its blockchain operations from its previous partner, Algorand, to the Avalanche network.

According to a report by Blockworks, FIFA will be building a customizable Layer-1 blockchain on the Avalanche network. This platform, referred to internally as the “FIFA Blockchain,” is structured as a Layer-1 network, similar in concept to what Avalanche has previously described as a subnet.

“Avalanche is designed to support custom, high-performance blockchain solutions that are perfect for organizations with global-scale needs,” said John Nahas, Chief Business Officer at Ava Labs.

FIFA Moves From Algorand to EVM-Compatible Avalanche

FIFA first entered the blockchain scene with an NFT collection launched on the Algorand network in 2022. This initiative coincided with the FIFA World Cup hosted in Qatar and marked the organisation’s first major public-facing digital asset endeavor.
