According to data from Glassnode, a blockchain analytics firm, the surge in transactions can be attributed to the introduction of Bitcoin Runes, a new system for creating fungible tokens on the Bitcoin network. Runes have quickly become the dominant type of cryptocurrency transaction, accounting for 68% of all Bitcoin transactions. Dune, a data analytics platform, reports that investors have already completed over 3.6 million Rune-related transactions.

"However, the market could soon cool off once the hype subsides, much like we saw with NFTs after their initial surge."
