Bitcoin transaction volume surpassed $19 trillion in 2024, a significant increase from the $8.7 trillion settled in 2023. This marks a reversal from two years of declining transaction volume, following the peak of $47 trillion during the 2021 bull market.

Data from Pierre Rochard, vice president of research at Riot Platforms, shows that Bitcoin transaction volume reached a new all-time high in 2024. The network's hashrate also hit a record high of 1,000 exahashes per second (EH/s) in early 2024, before stabilizing at around 775 EH/s.

US-based Bitcoin mining pools controlled over 40% of the global hashrate in 2024, with Foundry USA and MARA Pool contributing to over 38.5% of all blocks mined. However, China-based mining pools still maintained a majority of the hashrate on the Bitcoin network.

Due to the pseudonymous and geographically distributed nature of Bitcoin mining, an accurate gauge of hashrate dominance is challenging to determine. Mining pool operators may be based in one country but could utilize hashrate from individual miners worldwide.
