Trust Wallet, the world’s leading self-custody wallet with over 200 million users, today announced full support for EIP-7702—the next evolution of Ethereum account design.
Set to be the biggest upgrade since the Ethereum Merge, EIP-7702 (linked above) ushers in a new era of smart wallet capabilities directly within standard Ethereum accounts.
This shift sees Trust Wallet transition to a smart wallet architecture that brings Account Abstraction (AA) capabilities to standard Externally Owned Accounts (EOAs)—unlocking programmable wallet behavior, better UX, and more flexible transaction logic for every user.
“EIP-7702 changes the game,” said Eowyn Chen, CEO of Trust Wallet. “It’s the most important UX upgrade Ethereum has seen in years, and we’re excited to be among the first wallets building directly on top of it.”
EIP-7702: A New Era for Wallet Design
Proposed by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and targeted for inclusion in the Pectra upgrade, EIP-7702 allows EOAs (the most common type of wallet) to temporarily behave like smart contract wallets during a transaction—without needing to deploy a new contract or switch account types.
In essence, EIP-7702 allows EOAs to use an "introspection module" that defines their programmable behavior for a specific transaction, after which the chain code reverts to the standard EOA format. This grants EOAs the same capabilities as smart contract wallets, but in a modular and user-friendly way.

Built In-House, End-to-End
Rather than relying on third-party abstractions or SDKs, Trust Wallet has developed a modular AA engine in-house—built to be scalable, secure, and chain-agnostic. The system includes:
This architecture gives Trust Wallet a long-term advantage in performance, reliability, and extensibility—and sets a new standard for EOA-based smart wallet design.

Coming Soon: FlexGas and Smart Wallet UX
While EIP-7702 support lays the groundwork, FlexGas—Trust Wallet’s first feature built on the new architecture—will roll out next, enabling users to pay gas with tokens they already hold, starting with USDT and TWT on Ethereum and BNB Chain.
