Hay fever affects more than 10 million Brits each year - but here are some ways to ease your symptoms

More than 10 million people across the UK are affected by hay fever which is worse during between the months of March and November - but what can you do to ease symptoms?

Hay fever is an allergy to pollen grains which get released during the pollen season in the UK. People who suffer from hay fever are urged to take antihistamines before going outside, take off their outdoor clothes when they get inside and to wash their hands and face to avoid the pollen particles as much as possible.

The irritating allergic reaction to air borne pollen particles can cause sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes, grogginess, and even headaches and hives in more severe cases. Unlike a cold, which typically clears up within a week or so, hay fever can last for months.

Experts at Bed Factory Direct have put together a list of helpful tips and tricks to reduce the effects of hay fever during the spring and summer months.

Sleep expert Dr Daisy Mae has shared a little-known hack which includes hoovering your mattress.

Dr Daisy Mae said: “Hoovering your mattress is something that often gets put to the back of the list, or forgotten completely.

"By whipping out your hoover and getting it on your mattress, you’ll massively reduce the amount of dust and pollen particles that you bring in from outside and ensure that they’re limited in the bedroom.”

She added: “If you have a hoover with a HEPA; a higher energy particulate filter, then this will remove microscopic traces of dust more efficiently. Something to look out for if you’re in the
