Coinbase Will List the Peanut the Squirrel (PNUT) Meme Coin on the Solana Network
2025/01/14 04:31

Major cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase will list the Peanut the Squirrel (PNUT) meme coin on the Solana network on January 14.
This will be subject to liquidity conditions, and the meme coin will begin trading in phases once sufficient supply is established, according to Coinbase’s listing page.
Coinbase Adds Meme Coin to Solana Listings
Coinbase has slowly been adding more Solana (SOL) tokens to its exchange this year.
The US exchange began 2025 by adding the top meme coin on the Solana network, BONK (BONK), to its listing plans. Now, another meme coin will be joining the exchange.
Coinbase announced the listing plans for Peanut the Squirrel (PNUT) on December 11. After sitting on the listing plans for a month, the meme coin will finally begin trading on Coinbase on January 14.
“Coinbase will add support for Peanut the Squirrel (PNUT) on the Solana network (SPL token). Trading will begin on or after 9AM PT on 14 January, 2025 if liquidity conditions are met. Once sufficient supply of this asset is established trading on our PNUT-USD trading pair will launch in phases. Support for PNUT may be restricted in some supported jurisdictions,” the exchange announced.
Coinbase’s new listing announcement saw the PNUT token rally by 10% within the hour, according to CoinMarketCap data. However, the meme coin is still down by 13% over the past 24 hours.
The token’s daily trading volume also surged by over 90%, reaching around $1.3 million. PNUT began the day trading at $0.4, and it is currently trading hands at $0.44.
The Coinbase listing came relatively late, as other major cryptocurrency exchanges like Binance, Bybit, and Bitget listed the meme coin very early on. PNUT was also recently listed by web3 payments infrastructure provider Transak.
The meme coin was created and launched via Pump.fun in November 2024. It was themed after the popular social media pet ‘Peanut the Squirrel,’ which belonged to NY resident Mark Longo.
Longo’s squirrel, Peanut, became very popular on social media, amassing millions of followers across multiple platforms. However, Peanut was tragically seized and euthanized by state environmental regulators.
This led to a massive social media outcry, and in response, anonymous developers launched the PNUT meme coin. While the community quickly got behind the token, Longo filed a lawsuit against Binance.
Longo accused Binance of using his image (IP) without permission to endorse the meme coin, which was listed on the exchange early on. Despite these challenges, PNUT has seen significant speculative interest throughout the months.
