The Sonic blockchain has achieved a transaction finality of 720 milliseconds (ms) during its testnet. In blockchain, finality is the assurance that a transaction is irreversible, which happens after it is added to a block on the blockchain ledger.

Sonic claims to be the world’s fastest Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chain, with a “true” 720-ms finality, according to Andre Cronje, the creator of the Fantom Network and the chief technology officer of Sonic Labs.

After a transaction is executed, most blockchains require several additional blocks to make the transaction non-reversible, unlike Sonic, which brings this transaction finality to just over 700ms.

Currently, the Solana mainnet is the fastest blockchain network, with a 12.8-second transaction finality, according to Chainspect data.

Solana boasts 400-millisecond block production times. However, Solana typically requires 31 block confirmations to reach true finality, unlike the Sonic testnet's 420-millisecond feat.

Sonic could become a go-to blockchain for builders and developers. Cronje added that this is mainly because 90% of the network’s generated transaction fees are paid back to blockchain developers.
