In a move that marks a new chapter for the Ethereum scaling giant, co-founder Sandeep Nailwal has assumed the role of CEO at the Polygon Foundation, while the network itself is pivoting for broader growth and protocol consolidation.

Announcing the change in a detailed post on X, originally Twitter, Nailwal said he will be assuming direct control over the foundation, which manages multiple entities within the Polygon ecosystem, including its primary contributor, Polygon Labs.

Marc Boiron will remain CEO of the Labs subsidiary, but Nailwal will now oversee broader strategic decisions from the top, noting a need for clearer execution in what he described as a “zero-to-one” phase for the protocol.

Polygon PoS and Agglayer Take Center Stage

A major part of the shift will also see Polygon’s zkEVM product being sunset by next year, with the project’s core focus narrowing down to two components: the Polygon PoS chain and Agglayer.

On the technical side, the Gigagas roadmap for Polygon PoS is now in testnet, pushing transaction throughput beyond 1,000 TPS, with finality times expected to drop below one second in the coming months.

In a final change, the previously neutral “Agglayer” brand will now fall directly under the Polygon banner, bringing ecosystem efforts together.
