4 Rock Bands That Will Keep Their Identities Secret Until the Day They Die

Sometimes, it’s easier to produce good music if the masses don’t perceive your corporeal form. When the focus is on the music and not on the personal lives or appearance of a band’s members, it can really create a better listening experience. That being said, there are a few rock bands out there that boast secret identities. And most of them have managed to keep their secret until this day. Let’s dive in!

Sleep Token

It’s no surprise that Sleep Token makes our list of bands with secret identities. This metal collective has been making waves in the world of rock in the last few years. And each of their members remains entirely anonymous. They boast masks and elaborate costumes to stage to hide their identities from the public. In fact, the band almost never does interviews, either. The goal for them is to keep the focus solely on their music.

Ghost

Like Sleep Token, many of the members of Ghost choose to hide their identities. However, the band’s frontman is fairly well-known by his real name, Tobias Forge. The rest of the Swedish heavy metal band’s members are known only as “Nameless Ghouls.” Forge would have likely continued to hide his identity if it weren’t for a pretty high-profile legal battle that revealed his identity.

The Residents

This is one of the oldest bands on this list and one of the most influential. The Residents are a group of avant-garde and art rock musicians who have been in the game since the debut of their first official album, Meet The Residents, in 1974. They’ve released over 60 albums through the years and are still together to this day. The group’s members have done their best to work anonymously. However, in 2017, one Hardy Fox revealed himself to be the band’s founder and main composer shortly before passing away in 2018.

PPL MVR

Back in the day, a lot of people thought PPL MVR was made up of members of the band Brand New. However, it was later discovered that this entry on our list of bands with secret identities did not, in fact, include any members of the early 2000s emo outfit. People are still speculating who the musicians under the animal costumes are to this day, but not all of the members have formally revealed themselves. Only one "human" member, Ppl Mvr’s band is known and that is engineers and producers Pino.
