DeFi giant Uniswap Labs has finally unveiled its much-anticipated Layer 2 (L2) protocol, dubbed “Unichain.” The new protocol is designed to enhance the speed, affordability, and efficiency of DeFi across multiple chains.

DeFi大手のUniswap Labsは、「Unichain」と呼ばれる待望のレイヤー2（L2）プロトコルをついに発表した。新しいプロトコルは、複数のチェーンにわたる DeFi の速度、手頃な価格、効率を強化するように設計されています。

According to a blog post by Uniswap Labs, Unichain will drastically reduce transaction costs by approximately 95%. This significant reduction is achieved by shifting transaction processing to L2, which boasts lower fees compared to Ethereum's main Layer 1 (L1). Over time, as L2s become even more optimized, further decreases in transaction costs are to be expected.

Unichain will initially commence with one-second block times, swiftly followed by the introduction of 250-millisecond “sub-blocks.” This rapid succession of blocks will essentially make transactions feel almost instant to users.

As part of the Optimism Superchain, Unichain will collaborate with OP Labs to facilitate cross-chain swaps, enabling users to seamlessly navigate between chains. For chains external to the Superchain, Unichain is actively engaged in initiatives such as ERC-7683 to optimize interoperability between different blockchains, making swaps between any chains feel effortless.
