Canada Gold, a family-owned network of trusted neighborhood gold buyers and sellers, is partnering with the Royal Canadian Mint to host a public coin exchange in Vancouver on May 2 and 3.

The coin exchange will also mark the grand opening of Canada Gold's new flagship location, housed in a restored heritage Bank of Montreal building at 2490 Main Street, at the corner of Broadway and Main.

"Our two-day event will give collectors and members of the public the chance to exchange $5 cash (limit one exchange per person, while supplies last) for a curated selection of new Canadian circulating coins," said Tyler Whitmore, CEO of Canada Gold. "Each exchange bag will include at least two of the newly released 2025 colourized $1 coins commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada."

These coins are currently only available through circulation, as the Mint's special wrapped rolls were not ready at the time of the coin's release.

In addition to the Supreme Court loonies, each $5 exchange bag will be filled with other circulating commemoratives, including the 2024 $1 coin honouring the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force and the 2024 colourized $1 coin celebrating the 150th anniversary of L.M. Montgomery's birth. While quantities of the 2024 issues are limited, substitutions may be made as needed.

Adding to the exchange's appeal, Toronto-based illustrator Pui Yan Fong, designer of the 2024 RCAF coin, will attend both days to meet visitors and autograph a limited supply of the now sold-out 2024 RCAF Commemorative Keepsake set. The set features both the colourized and engraved versions of her design, which captures a century of RCAF service through a dynamic ring of stylized aircraft, anchored by the iconic CC-130 Hercules at the centre.

The new Vancouver location marks a significant expansion of Canada Gold's national footprint. With 16 locations across Canada and the U.S., the company offers full-service bullion trading, numismatic buying and selling, scrap gold and silver refining, and vintage fine jewellery through its partner, 100ways.ca. The event will take place Friday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the new 2490 Main Street location.
