In a previous article, I discussed how executives at publicly-listed companies ultimately have a fiduciary duty to maximize shareholder value, and how this can intersect with the pursuit of Bitcoin (BTC-USD) on the part of company management. In the context of a public company, any activity should ideally generate a return for the company’s shareholders, and executives should pursue the avenues that can most rapidly grow capital.

In the case of Bitcoin, it is an asset that can rapidly appreciate in U.S. dollar terms, and as such, it can be a valuable addition to a company’s treasury. If a company is able to generate fiat capital at low cost—for example, through a U.S. government loan program during a time of low interest rates—then it can use that capital to buy Bitcoin and realize outsized gains as the cryptocurrency appreciates.

One stock that comes to mind is Marathon Digital (NASDAQ:MARA). The company has been quite open about its belief that Bitcoin is the best performing asset of the past decade, and it is a coin that is sure to continue gaining in popularity throughout the world.

Of course, no one can predict how cryptocurrencies will perform in the future. But given the rapid pace at which Bitcoin has appreciated in recent years, I think there is potential for more gains from here.
