Also in 2024, BankSocial® launched a proactive fraud-monitoring initiative using AI, ML, and distributed ledger technology (DLT). The platform began tracking phishing sites, scam tokens, and HTS memo abuses across the Hedera, XRP, Bitcoin, Ethereum and many other ecosystems—many of which dated back to 2022 and had gone largely unnoticed.

A Breach—and a Catalyst

In September 2024, a wallet used by the BSL DAO LLC was compromised. Responding immediately, BankSocial® engaged law enforcement, started a forensic investigation with Kroll, and escalated the incident to ecosystem leaders.

The breach was quickly traced to third-party malware and social engineering tactics. Independent reviews by leading security teams, including experts from The Hashgraph Association, confirmed that BankSocial®’s internal systems were fully secure and had not been penetrated.

The search for the malware source and operators took several months, engaging cybersecurity firms, crypto analytics companies, and key members of the blockchain community. Finally, in early 2025, the investigation identified a set of rogue developers who had been working on various projects within the Hedera ecosystem. One individual was heavily involved and used an exploit to fund a series of wallets used in major thefts.

After reporting these findings to the FBI, Secret Service, and global law enforcement, the individual deleted all known accounts in January 2025.
