Laffer highlighted the U.S.'s shift away from monetary stability and toward what he termed an “unhinged paper currency.” He warned that this move, coupled with poor economic policies, could see the dollar being replaced on the world stage by alternatives like bitcoin, gold, or other currencies.

Having served on President Ronald Reagan's Economic Policy Advisory Board and later advising former President Donald Trump, Laffer criticized the current administration's handling of economic and monetary policies. According to him, this loss of confidence is pushing countries to seek alternatives to the dollar, potentially leading to its eventual replacement as the primary global currency.
