Two Jalgaon Students Die by Suicide After Scoring Lower-Than-Expected Marks in HSC Exams

Two students in Jalgaon district took their own lives on Monday after learning their results from the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exam, which were announced on the same day. The incidents, which took place in Mamurabad and Pachora, have sparked concern among educators and mental health professionals.

Rishikesh Dinesh Patil, 17, from Mamurabad, was reportedly upset after receiving his marks, which were in the 40s. He was found hanging on the second floor of his house by his mother, who had been unwell and went to check on him as she had not seen him for some time.

In another incident in Pachora, Bhavesh Mahajan, who had come to Pachora from another place to see his sister, took his life after scoring 49% in the exam. The Pachora police have registered both cases as accidental deaths.

Commenting on the tragedies, education counsellor Pankaj Vyavhare advised students and parents to view exams as a part of life, not the whole of life, and to keep in mind that success and failure are two sides of the same coin.

The HSC exam results, which were announced by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) on Monday, showed a pass percentage of 94.54% in Jalgaon district, up from 93.26% last year.

In Jalgaon city, the pass percentage was 96.95%, with 42,295 of 44,736 students clearing the exam.
