Hamster Kombat (HMSTR) Token Remained in a Tight Range This Week, Despite Developers Announcing Plans to Launch a Layer-2 Blockchain Network

Hamster Kombat (HMSTR) price remained rangebound this week, despite the announcement from its developers regarding the launch of a layer-2 blockchain network.

On Monday, the HMSTR token price was trading at $0.0030, where it has been largely stuck over the last few days. The token has seen a decline of around 78% from its all-time high, bringing its market capitalization to $200 million.

In a post on X, Hamster Kombat’s developers announced plans to launch a layer-2 blockchain in partnership with Tycho.

A layer-2 network is a secondary framework that is built on top of an existing blockchain, such as Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH), in order to improve scalability and speed. In the case of Hamster Kombat, the layer-2 network will be built upon the TON Blockchain.

The developers hope that the launch of the new network will attract developers in the fields of gaming and decentralized finance (DeFi).

They also aim to provide additional utility to the HMSTR token in an effort to boost its struggling price performance. However, historical data suggests that the launch of a layer-2 network does not always guarantee success in attracting developers or boosting the token’s value.

For example, the dYdX token has underperformed compared to other decentralized exchange tokens since the launch of the dYdX Chain in 2023. In another instance, Shiba Inu’s (SHIB) price has lagged behind other meme coins like Pepe and Bonk following the launch of Shibarium, its scaling project. Additionally, Uniswap’s token price has struggled ahead of the launch of UniChain, its own layer-2 network designed to support a multi-chain trading ecosystem.

Hamster Kombat was a major player in the Telegram tap-to-earn sector in 2024, boasting over 300 million users. Its popularity surged following the token airdrop, but a majority of the recipients sold their tokens, leading to a decline in its popularity. According to IntoTheBlock, the number of Hamster Kombat holders has dropped to 3.8 million.

On Monday, the HMSTR token price was trading at $0.0030, hovering around the 50-period and 25-period moving averages (MAs). Its daily trading volume and futures open interest both continued a روند نزولی, indicating low demand.

On the daily price chart, the token has been forming a symmetrical triangle pattern. The upper boundary of this triangle connects the highest levels since Nov. 10, while the lower boundary links the lowest swings since Nov. 2.

This pattern suggests that the token may experience either a bullish breakout or a bearish breakdown. A bullish breakout could push the price to the next resistance level at $0.003580, which marks the highest swing on Jan. 6. Conversely, a bearish breakdown could bring the psychological support level of $0.0025 into focus.
