  Watch only for one thing to know when a sell-off is ending: a day when $VIX ↓ and $SPX ↓. That’s usually the bottom, or a few days before it. Either way, it’s a signal to start buying. Not before.

  I’m not sure I’ve ever seen this in my 15 years trading the $VIX. Maybe it’s the potential November showdown with China, or maybe everyone just believes the market is overpriced and a correction is coming. Either way-the $VIX breaks (down), or the $SPX does. This cannot last.
