Trump’s meme coin business racks up fees as buyers jump at the chance for access to the president
May 06, 2025 at 03:55 am
President Donald Trump on Monday promoted a dinner he’s setting to attend later this month that’s open to almost anyone who buys enough of his meme coin.
President Donald Trump is set to attend a dinner on May 22nd that’s open to almost anyone who buys enough of his meme coin, the former president said Monday.
The dinner will be held at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, and will benefit the Trump campaign, the president wrote on his Truth Social platform.
“I look forward to meeting everyone who buys a MAGA coin at the MAGA coin dinner on Monday, May 22 at 7pm, at Trump National Bedminster!” Trump said in the post.
Those who buy the coin will be able to join Trump for dinner and photos.
The coin, which is called MAGA and trades under the ticker symbol MAGA, was launched earlier this year by Trump’s family members. The coin is a parody of Bitcoin, and it is meant to be a lighthearted way for Trump supporters to stay involved in the campaign.
In the crypto world, meme coins are mostly just jokes with no intrinsic value. But the Trump family is parlaying the president’s meme coin into two valuable commodities: serious cash and access to the president.
Since the coin was launched earlier this year, it has generated more than $320 million in fees for its creators, according to the blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis.
The fees are collected when people buy or sell the coin, and they go to the miners who process the transactions. The fees are then distributed to the creators of the coin.
The coin’s price has soared in recent months, and it is now trading at around $70. The coin’s market capitalization is estimated to be at least $1 billion.
The Trump family is also selling NFTs of Trump that are priced at $99 each. The NFTs are limited edition and collectible digital artifacts that can be bought and sold on OpenSea, a popular NFT marketplace.
The NFTs feature images of Trump in various poses, such as holding a Bitcoin and wearing a suit. The NFTs also include short video clips of Trump speaking about his vision for America.
