Strengthening Visa's Position in the Stablecoin Payment Ecosystem: Deep Dive into the BVNK Investment
May 08, 2025 at 05:15 am
Visa's investment in BVNK through its Visa Ventures arm underscores its commitment to expanding its presence in the stablecoin payment sector.
Visa Ventures has invested in London-based fintech startup, BVNK. The investment was disclosed by BVNK on Monday, May 7.
What Happened: While the investment amount was not disclosed, a press statement by BVNK said the investment will see the two companies collaborate closely.
“I’m particularly excited about what it means to partner with Visa— the original payments innovator. Their deep expertise in building global payment networks, combined with our stablecoin infrastructure, creates powerful possibilities for redefining how businesses operate in today’s digital economy,” said BVNK CEO, Jesse Hemson-Struthers.
Why It’s Important: The move is part of Visa’s broader strategy to integrate blockchain technology into its payment infrastructure.
Founded in 2021, BVNK has been rapidly building out its platform for enabling businesses to pay, collect and hold stablecoins and fiat currencies across various domestic and international payment rails and blockchains.
The startup’s technology is designed to simplify the complexities of blockchain technology, providing businesses with the tools they need to manage global payments in a more efficient manner.
In December 2024, BVNK announced a $50 million Series B funding round, led by Haun Ventures, with participation from Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN) Ventures, Scribble Ventures, DRW VC, Avenir, and Tiger Global.
The funding will be used to expand BVNK’s operations, particularly in the U.S., with plans to open offices in San Francisco and New York City.
BVNK’s Partnerships: The startup has also forged partnerships to expand the reach of its stablecoin offerings.
In January 2025, BVNK partnered with First Digital to integrate First Digital USD (FDUSD), a USD-backed stablecoin.
Later, BVNK announced a collaboration with Circle to expand the utility of USDC, enabling faster and more efficient global business payments.
Earlier this year, PayPal (NASDAQ:PYPL) USD (PYUSD) was integrated into BVNK’s platform.
