Bitcoin is steadily gaining prominence as a corporate asset, with public companies now holding nearly 700,000 BTC. Strategy (MSTR) (formerly MicroStrategy) leads this group

Public companies are steadily increasing their Bitcoin holdings, with corporations now holding nearly 700,000 BTC. Strategy (MSTR) (formerly MicroStrategy) leads this group with a dominant 77% share of total corporate BTC.
According to data compiled by Bitwise Asset Management, corporate BTC holdings have surged from virtually zero in 2019 to staggering levels in 2025. Experts attribute this to Strategy’s aggressive BTC acquisition strategy, often involving debt-financed Bitcoin buying, setting a precedent for firms seeking hedges against fiat debasement and inflation. Strategy is recognized as the world’s first and largest Bitcoin Treasury Company.
Millions Gain Indirect Bitcoin Exposure Via MSTR Shares
Strategy co-founder Michael Saylor recently disclosed that over 13,000 institutions and 814,000 retail accounts directly hold MSTR shares, while 55 million more have indirect exposure through ETFs, mutual funds, pensions, and insurance vehicles.
This structure implies that millions of people and institutions are indirectly invested in Bitcoin via their holdings in MSTR shares. Even though a limited number of companies hold BTC, these firms are comprehensively covered by funds, pensions, and retail investors, effectively granting millions indirect exposure to Bitcoin.
Metaplanet Signals Rising Corporate Adoption in Asia
In another development, Japan’s Metaplanet is quickly emerging as the Asian counterpart to Strategy, now holding 4,855 BTC as of April 21, 2025, with an impressive 119.3% yield year-to-date.
As Bitcoin expands its footprint on corporate balance sheets, calls are growing for more institutional players to step into the spotlight. “Join the Bitcoin race, don’t fight against it,” remarked one observer. If current trends continue, corporate adoption of Bitcoin could reach new highs, becoming a defining investment narrative of the decade.
