Solana's Leap into Mainstream Investment Vehicles

Mar 21, 2025 at 03:55 am

The cryptocurrency market is witnessing a pivotal moment for Solana (SOL) as Volatility Shares prepares to launch the first-ever Solana futures ETFs in the United States.

Solana's Leap into Mainstream Investment Vehicles

output: A cryptocurrency is rapidly gaining traction in the U.S. as two futures ETFs tracking the token are set to debut. This marks a significant moment for Solana (CRYPTO: SOL), pushing it closer to being accessible to a wider range of investors.

What Happened: Volatility Shares is preparing to launch the first-ever Solana futures ETFs in the U.S., according to reports. The firm is aiming to list the iShares Short-Term Treasury Bond ETF (NYSE: SHY)put the Solana ETFs on Thursday, pending approval.

The move comes as several other firms, including Bitwise, Factorial, and WisdomTree, are seeking approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission for spot Solana ETFs.

Solana futures trading began on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange earlier in March, paving the way for the futures ETFs.

Why It’s Important: This launch marks a milestone in Solana’s journey towards mainstream investment.

The Solana blockchain has gained recognition for its high throughput and low fees, making it suitable for a wide range of decentralized applications.

Earlier this month, reports indicated that Volatility Shares filed to list the Solana futures ETFs in December, showcasing the firm’s strategy to be among the first to launch these products.

The regulatory landscape surrounding Solana ETFs is still unfolding. Several firms had applied for spot Solana ETFs in 2023, but so far, no such ETFs have been approved.

Recently, there has been a focus on approving futures ETFs, with several firms securing approval for products tracking cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) and Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH).

The launch of the Solana futures ETFs could be a stepping stone towards the potential approval of spot Solana ETFs later this year.

Solana has also been the subject of a recent controversial ad campaign, which was later paused. The campaign, which aimed to introduce Solana to a broader audience, sparked backlash on social media.

Solana’s price has experienced volatility in recent months, with reports of a 15% price drop attributing the decline to macroeconomic factors and internal issues within the Solana ecosystem.
