Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse Expresses Enthusiasm for Upcoming XRP Futures Launch on CME Group

Ripple's CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, has expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming launch of XRP futures on CME Group's trading platform, calling it a significant and long-awaited step

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse Expresses Enthusiasm for Upcoming XRP Futures Launch on CME Group

CoinDesk is reporting that CME Group will launch XRP futures on May 19, pending approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

CME Group will offer both standard and Micro XRP futures contracts, which will be available in two contract sizes. The standard XRP futures contract will come in an amount of 50,000 tokens, and the Micro XRP futures contract will have a smaller size of 2,500 XRP.

Both products will be cash-settled, and they will provide a leveraged way to trade XRP in a liquid and deep market. The smaller size of the Micro XRP futures contracts makes them accessible to a wider range of investors.

“This is an incredibly important and exciting step in the continued growth of the XRP market!” Garlinghouse said in a statement.

“While it’s long overdue in a bunch of ways, the fact that the market has seen over $1.5B in seven-day volume yet no major futures payola like CME has launched speaks to the delay. And it’s surprising considering how quickly Coinbase launched its futures product after announcing it in March.”

In March, Coinbase announced its intention to introduce futures products for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP in the second quarter of 2025. Shortly after, the cryptocurrency exchange launched its futures product for ether.

Earlier this month, Bitnomial began offering XRP futures to institutional investors.

CME is already home to futures products tied to Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. In the first quarter of 2025, CME saw an average of 198,000 contracts traded on these products.
