Maple Story N Blockchain Game to Start Global Service This Month
May 02, 2025 at 01:12 pm
The blockchain game 'Maple Story N', which Nexon is developing, will start a global service this month.
Video game company Nexon is launching its blockchain game offering, "Maple Story N," globally later this month, a move that will see the company introduce a new take on its popular MMORPG in a Web3 format.
According to reports by Korean news outlet News1, the game is set to launch on March 15 via the official Maple Story Universe site.
The game is being developed by Nexface, a games studio subsidiary of Nexon that focuses on blockchain games.
Maple Story N is the first title to launch as part of the wider Maple Story Universe initiative, which will see a series of blockchain games and applications built around the existing Maple Story IP.
The games and apps will share the same blockchain ecosystem, which will be maintained by Nexon.
Among the games in development is a multi-access role-playing game (MMORPG) that will be powered by blockchain technology and feature a range of Web3 technologies.
The game will be available on PC and will see users able to collect NESO, an in-game reward token, which they will be able to use to obtain NXPC, the ecosystem’s reserve currency.
Items in the game will be minted as NFTs and can be traded with other users.
Earlier this year, Nexon announced that it would be shutting down the original Maple Story in Korea, and it seems that the company may not be planning to launch any of its blockchain games in its home country.
Under the Korean Game Industry Act, the operation of blockchain games is currently banned.
Last year, Nexon announced its plans to launch the Maple Story Universe initiative, which will see the company expand its presence in the rapidly growing metaverse market.
The company is also developing a series of other blockchain games, including a blockchain version of its popular online game Counter Strike Online.
