Eric Trump, speaking at the Consensus 2025 conference in Toronto on Monday, painted a picture of a world scrambling for Bitcoin. He said he hears the same thing everywhere he goes—on planes, in boardrooms, even from big state funds.
His comments came as he joined Hut 8 CEO Asher Genoot on a panel about where Bitcoin is headed next.
According to Eric Trump, “Everybody in the world is trying to hoard Bitcoin right now.” He added that sovereign wealth funds and the wealthiest families are all in on the rush. He even mentioned hearing the buzz from some of the world’s largest companies.
Major players, it seems, are moving into a bitcoinized future faster than many realize.
The younger Trump brother’s remarks come after a merger between American Bitcoin—a unit cofounded by Eric Trump and his brother and owned by Hut 8—and Gryphon Digital Mining was announced on Friday. The structure is an all-stock exchange, meaning shareholders of both firms will wake up next year with shares in the same new company.
This combined group is said to be listing on Nasdaq in Q3 2025, opening the doors for regulated markets to tap into mining profits without holding bitcoin directly.
Investors reacted quickly, sending Gryphon's stock up over 200% on Monday morning following the merger news. Shares of Hut 8 also rose sharply.
That kind of move from investors highlights how hungry Wall Street is for anything related to the upcoming bitcoin halving cycle. As we know, mining companies tend to ramp up their activity ahead of halvings due to the resulting scarcity.
By merging, the two companies aim to share resources, increase their hash power, and raise their profiles ahead of the reward cut, which is set to occur in 2024.
