The crypto sector is gaining ground within the American banking system
Apr 22, 2025 at 02:00 pm
After the collapse of FTX and the loss of crypto-friendly banks such as Silvergate Capital and Signature Bank, many financial institutions turned their back on the sector.

The crypto sector is gaining ground within the American banking system after a period of withdrawal after the FTX disaster and the closure of crypto-friendly banks such as Silvergate Capital and Signature Bank.
After the collapse of FTX and the problems with hedge funds that were too involved in Memecoins, many financial institutions turned their back on the crypto sector. A policy shift among President Trump, who wants to turn the US a "Bitcoin Superpower", now seems to challenge integration between crypto and traditional banks.
Crypto companies such as Circle and Bitgo have announced that they are planning to request banking licenses. With such a license they can offer traditional banking services such as deposits, loans and the issue of Stablecoins. Coinbase and Paxos also investigate similar steps.
These developments follow the relaxation of rules that banks limited in their handling of crypto and that coincided with Trumps return to the White House. Earlier this year, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp (FDIC) already announced that it was looking for ways to allow crypto activities without the need for a full conversion to a crypto bank.
In the meantime, the congress is working on legislation on Stablecoins, which would require new rules for publishers of Stablecoins and an official license.
These new rules would ensure that companies such as Paxos, which were charged earlier this year by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the issuing of unlicously effects, need a permit to continue to issue their Stablecoins.
