Cardano Founder Charles Hoskinson Confirms XRP Integration Is Underway, Promises Midnight Airdrop to Holders

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has confirmed that users will soon be able to store, send, and receive XRP using the Lace Wallet.

This was shared during a recent surprise Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on YouTube, which lasted over three hours. The wallet, developed by Cardano’s tech arm Input Output Global (IOG), is expanding its multi-chain capabilities by adding XRP to its supported assets.

Asked by a user if he was still in talks with Ripple, Hoskinson confirmed that discussions between IOG and Ripple were going well. “Things are moving well,” he said, suggesting past disagreements between both teams may be over. He also revealed that the development team plans to integrate XRP into the Lace Wallet.

Once the integration is complete, users will be able to manage their XRP directly within Lace. This means they can send it, receive it, and hold it just like they would with ADA or Bitcoin.

The Lace wallet launched on the Cardano mainnet in April 2023. At first, it only supported Cardano-based assets. But the wallet has been steadily expanding, recently adding Bitcoin support.

While Hoskinson did not disclose a specific date for XRP integration, he confirmed that the process is underway. "And this is just the beginning," said Lace General Manager Brandon Wolf.

"We're going to add support for all the major chains."

The addition of XRP to Lace would make it possible for users to easily swap between different cryptocurrencies, further streamlining the user experience.

In other news, Hoskinson also confirmed that XRP users will be eligible for the upcoming Midnight token airdrop. Midnight is Cardano’s privacy-focused blockchain that supports secure, decentralized apps. Its governance token is NIGHT, and another token called DUST will be used for private transactions.

The NIGHT airdrop will reach 37 million users across eight blockchains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cardano, Solana, Polygon, Binance Smart Chain, Avalanche, and XRP Ledger.

"We're going to be adding support for all the major chains," said Wolf.

As for the integration of XRP into the Lace wallet, it remains unclear when it will be completed. However, given the recent progress on both sides, the possibility of seamless XRP and ADA transactions within the same wallet in the near future seems promising.
