Bitcoin (BTC) May Be 40% Undervalued Based on This Model

Apr 26, 2025 at 01:00 am

Bitcoin (BTC) could be trading at a steep discount to its true value, according to Charles Edwards, founder of Capriole Investments.

Bitcoin (BTC) May Be 40% Undervalued Based on This Model

Charles Edwards, founder of Capriole Investments, claims that Bitcoin (BTC) could be undervalued by a staggering 40% according to his advanced Energy Value model.

In a recent analysis shared on X (formerly Twitter), Edwards delves into his proprietary model, which currently estimates Bitcoin’s intrinsic worth at $130,000.

However, the flagship cryptocurrency is currently trading at a price of $94,000, suggesting substantial potential for appreciation if the model’s predictions hold.

Bitcoin Energy Value Model: A Unique Perspective

The Bitcoin Energy Value model, developed by Edwards, is based on the total energy consumption of the Bitcoin mining network to estimate the cryptocurrency’s true value.

This model operates on the premise that the amount of energy, measured in joules, used to secure the Bitcoin network can serve as a basis for pricing the cryptocurrency.

It essentially links Bitcoin’s economic value to its physical cost of production, integrating principles from energy-based economic theories.

If the model is to be believed, then BTC still has a long way to go. An "implied 40% undervalued," could be a good entry point for a long-term investor in an interesting crypto consolidation period.

Energy-Based Valuation in a Changing Landscape

While no valuation model offers foolproof predictions, the energy-based approach offers a unique perspective on Bitcoin’s potential price movements.

As the price of mining Bitcoin continues to rise and institutional interest in crypto signals new opportunities for diversification, the Energy Value model provides a data-backed lens into the cryptocurrency’s true worth.

Only time will tell whether Bitcoin will close this valuation gap. However, Edwards’ analysis contributes to the discussion on Bitcoin’s fundamentals in an interesting time for the crypto market.
