YES! Awards Gala Recognizes Individuals and Organizations Championing the Fight Against Youth Violence
Mar 30, 2025 at 11:20 am
Youth violence remains a critical issue facing the community, but dedicated efforts to create safer neighborhoods and brighter futures are making strides.
The Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods hosted the 2025 YES! Awards Gala on Saturday. The gala recognized individuals and organizations who are making a difference in the fight against youth violence in Louisville.
It was a celebration of community resilience and the collective efforts to create safer neighborhoods and brighter futures for youth.
As the organization’s new endevour, the YES! Awards highlighted the يأثرs of individuals and organizations who are working tirelessly to support youth and counter the critical issue of violence.
The gala brought together dozens of youth and community members to honor those who are making an impact in their own unique ways.
“I think it just means hope. Not everybody is recognizing them. And for them just to receive a small token of awareness and recognition, I think it will go a great length,” said Zion Smith, with The Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods.
The event came following an incident on Friday night, where three teenagers were arrested following gunfire near the Big Four Bridge.
Smith said the ongoing challenges are something to work on but is optimistic about the progress being made.
“It shows that we still have work to do throughout our city, including our schools. Please don't mistake that for something that happens every single day across our city. We're still making a change. Our youth are still with us,” Smith said.
Among those honored was 18-year-old Harley Potter, who was recognized for her achievements through Amplify 502. The organization highlights young individuals who have overcome adversity and hardships.
“We don't all have a very positive situation or outcome in life. Knowing that somebody has realized us and noticed us makes us want to keep pushing. It makes us want to keep going further and accomplish our achievements and what we want to get done in life,” Potter said.
The night served as a reminder that, despite the challenges faced by youth in today's society, there are organizations and individuals who are making a difference.
Youth recognized with Amplify 502 have the chance to apply for the Congressional Youth Award.
